The 66th San Francisco International Film Festival named By Water, directed by Professor Iyabo Kwayana, best animated short film.

Film and Media Studies Assoc. Professor Iyabo Kwayana's film BY WATER will premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2023 on January 22, 2023 in the Animated Shorts category.

Professor Iyabo Kwayana joined four fellow "cultural workers creating and sustaining life against the backdrop of disaster capitalism in Puerto Rico, Detroit, and the American South" for the panel "Cultural Work In the Wake" on August 23rd.

Professor Iyabo Kwayana has been awarded a NEF Early Development Grant for the film "Love in the Time of Corona", which she is co-producing and directing. LEF Program Officer Genevieve Carmel shared, "We couldn't be more excited to explore an expansion of LEF's Moving Image Fund in this way..."

Professors Iyabo Kwayana (Film and Media Studies) and James Whitfield (Physics) were awarded a SPARK Provost grant towards beginning production of their film about COVID-19, quantum entanglement, and the myth of separation.
