Ciné Salon presents 20th Season

CINÉ SALON AT 20 celebrates 20 years of film screenings and in-person encounters with international and local filmmakers and critics on the art and history of cinema as organized by film curator/filmmaker Bruce Posner since 1996.  All events are free and open to the Dartmouth community (co-sponsored by Department of Film and Media Studies, Dartmouth College). 

Highlights of “CINÉ SALON AT 20” include the “In Dialogue” encounters with cultural and film luminaries: art curator Trevor Fairbrother on Andy Warhol films Screen Tests and Couch (9/26 in person); journalist Virginia Heffernan on her book Magic and Loss: The Internet as Art (10/3 in person): filmmaker Carlos Casas on 2001: A Space Odyssey (10/10 in person); American film critic David Thomson on Judy Garland’s The Clock, (10/24 via Skype); Amherst College professor Amelie Hastie on Ida Lupino (10/31 in person); and renown DVD producer David Shepard on American film preservation (11/7 via Skype).

Also featured at “CINÉ SALON AT 20” will be special events Home Movie Day (Saturday, 10/15, 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM), where the public can view their own vintage R8, Super 8mm and 16mm home movies, and The Pip Dip Film Clip Party: Ciné Salon at 20 (10/24, 6:00 - 9:30 PM), with a smoothie-food treats-gelato reception followed by film critic David Thomson introducing the new digital reconstruction of the “2 Screen The Clock (1945)”, an expanded cinema projection screened at Thomson’s Film Studies class at Dartmouth in 1978.
