Submission Deadline: 11:59 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026

All undergraduate students are invited to submit their original screenplays for consideration for the Laing Memorial Screenwriting Award. Winners in each category will receive cash prizes. Submissions will be judged according to the subject's potential as effective movie/TV material and how well the writer conveys that potential in a shoot-able script. There are three categories:

Features (~90 – 120 pp.)
Pilots (~25 – 60 pp.)
Short Scripts (~5 – 20 pp.)
 

SUBMISSION RULES

• All submitted screenplays should have a title only – do not add your name to the attached screenplay
• Submit your screenplay as a PDF file via the Google Form linked below
• The PDF file should be named "FEATURE_Title_2026" or "PILOT_Title_2026" or "SHORT_Title_2026"
• TV pilots should be accompanied by a one-page long description of the show, accompanied by a line or two about each episode in the first season, outlining the arc of the Season One story (similar to what you would see when looking up a series on Netflix)
• You can submit more than one screenplay and submit screenplays for different categories
