Professor Jeffrey Ruoff will be the special guest at a screening of Algérie du Possible at Marlboro College on February 7th at 7PM. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the films director, Viviane Candas.
"Through interviews with his former comrades in arms, the film follows the path of Yves Mathieu, an anticolonialist in Africa, who then became a lawyer for the NLF. When Algeria won its independence, he drew up the Décrets de Mars relating to vacated property and self-management, promulgated in 1963 by Ahmed Ben Bella. Mathieu's life was punctuated by his commitment to Algeria, which was then called "The Beacon of the Third World." The film's director, his daughter, takes a look at the circumstances surrounding his death in 1966." -UniFrance.org
