The Film & Media Studies Department presents a screening of the film "communion" with director Anna Zamecka in-person for discussion.
Screening & Talk with Film Director Anna Zamecka
Anna Zamecka is a writer and director whose work blurs the boundaries between fiction and documentary. Her acclaimed debut feature Communion premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2016, went on to screen at over 100 international festivals and venues, receiving more than 40 awards—including the European Film Award for Best Documentary in 2017. It was also shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Academy Awards (Oscars).
She is a member of both the Eurpoean Film Academy and the Polish Film Academy, and was a DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Prgram Fellow in 2022. Anna divides her time between Erbil, Iraq, and her home in the ancient Bialowieza Forest in Poland. She is currently developing her second feature-length project.
Communion (2016) reveals the beauty of the rejected, the strength of the weak and the need for change when change seems impossible. This crash course in growing up teaches us that no failure is final. Especially when love is in question.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
